Zurich: Old Style, New Edge

Tom Armitage - Zurich

Once the preserve of bankers and insurers, Zurich is shaking off its staid image to emerge as a stylish European centre. The Riviera-like lake and hip fringes of Switzerland’s largest city are attracting a more diverse and international population. Technology, biotech and industrial companies are setting up shop in the area. And the city still ranks number one in global quality of life surveys. It’s time to see what makes Zurich tick.

Wrong side of the tracks: a tour of Zurich’s creative heart

Tom Armitage - Zurich

Hidden behind Zurich’s main railway station and dissected by the rail lines, the Langstrasse is a far cry from the elegance and glamour of the city’s main shopping drag. For almost eight years, I worked as a correspondent and senior correspondent at Reuters, the international news agency. I was trained by their experienced journalists in London before embarking on postings in Vienna, Zurich and Berlin. I reported from cities all over Europe and the U.S. and appeared on Reuters video and television services. My areas I covered included:

Switzerland: Banking, finance, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, luxury goods, politics, economics and monetary policy.
Germany: Politics, general news, international relations, reform and healthcare.
Austria: Politics, economics, energy, oil & gas, telecoms, banking and finance.

Reuters has an exceptional reputation for journalism and deservedly so. Its core values are accuracy, speed and freedom from bias — qualities which are also central to armitage media.

Here is a link to some of the more recent stories I wrote for Reuters from Zurich.
